Spruce Grove council received an update on the city’s fibre optic broadband initiative during a regular council meeting on March 8.

In a presentation to council, Bruno Peters, deputy regional director, Canada West and Keith Ponton, manager, intelligent systems both of IBI Group, spoke on the progress made to date and the next steps in the broadband process. Spruce Grove’s manager of economic and business development, Dave Walker provided an overview and introduced Monday’s guests from IBI Group.

“As part of the fibre optic broadband initiative the city is exploring options for operating models and partner opportunities,” said Walker. “As council is aware, the city has budgeted $4.65 million dollars in 2021 including $4.25 million in stimulus funding from the Alberta government to undertake a fibre optic build out in our industrial and commercial areas.”
