The business community may be in uncertain times but the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce still works to honour the best.

The organization held its annual business awards at the end of last month. Titles came out in a minimal format on social media and the group’s website and Spruce Grove’s Hyperspace Comics and Games broke through as the business of the year with 35 employees or less while longtime Stony Plain fixture North Central Co-op secured the honour for a business with 36 employees or more for their area presence.

“This was fairly unexpected,” Jonathan Mallett, who co-owns hyperspace with his wife Stephanie said. “We are still a little bit in shock. We had our hopes up and were realistic about our chances. We only have one employee. It was pretty amazing when we got the news on Oct. 27.”
