Telus brings 5G network to Spruce Grove

Spruce Grove residents can now access the latest and greatest wireless phone standards if they are customers of Telus Communications Inc.

The Vancouver-based device provider and carrier announced in a press release Sept. 23 that their 5G network – which refers to the latest cycle of technology for cellular devices that allows for greater download speeds and bandwidth – is now available within the community. It is set to come to Stony Plain by the end of the year, is already available in Edmonton and outpaces several rivals in the communications sphere.

“In [wireless analysis firm] Opensignal’s latest report Telus was found to have recorded download speeds of 78.5 megabits per second,” the release reads. “This is significantly faster than South Korea’s average of 59 megabits on their 5G networks and they went national in 2019. This wireless network leadership and the investment and talented team that underpin it drive our country’s innovation agenda outcomes.”
