Economic recovery was the theme of a recent visit to Spruce Grove by Immigration and Labour Minister Jason Copping.
Spruce Grove-Stony Plain MLA Searle Turton welcomed Copping to Spruce Grove on Aug. 3, where they discussed issues related to the riding with a focus on economic recovery. Copping met with several local businesses and employers who have been part of the Alberta Jobs Now program, while he was here.
“This is a program we launched to be able to get Albertans back to work. It’s a program that is about hiring individuals who are either unemployed or underemployed to get them into the workforce,” said Copping. “If you’re creating a job and you hire someone who is unemployed and you’re willing to make a commitment for a year, then you’re eligible for the subsidy.”
The Alberta Jobs Now program provides a 25 per cent wage subsidy per job for a year. Employers have to commit to 52 weeks, but the 25 per cent subsidy can be used for either job training, for wage subsidy or a combination of both.
