Step by step Alberta is slowly reopening.

The province announced last Friday that it is easing province wide health measures, that will occur in steps based on Covid-19 hospitalization benchmarks. A total of four steps, each one three weeks apart, will be phased in once the required criteria is reached. The first hospitalization benchmark is 600 and declining numbers for Step 1, followed by 450 and declining for Step 2, then 300 and declining for Step 3 and finally 150 and declining numbers for Step 4.

With hospitalizations now dipping below 600, Alberta is moving to the first step in the reopening process, beginning with restaurants and gyms on Feb. 8.

For several local businesses in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain, that is good news.

“I’m glad that everyone is coming back soon. We are excited. It (has been) too long,” said May Forteza, manager at a Spruce Grove Boston Pizza location. “I’m happy for everyone that we’re getting our jobs back.”
